Ballast - Vase
Completedworks x Ekaterina Bazhenova Yamasaki
Deceptively simple, yet soulful, this vase is designed for unexpected and irreverent floral arrangements.
Its sculptural form reflects the maker’s, Ekaterina Bazhenova Yamasaki, conceptual, theme-based approach, which stands in stark contrast to the classical rules of decoration that pervade traditional ceramics. The flowing contours of the piece reference the way drapery has been used by painters to convey movement since the Renaissance.

About the Fold Collection
Fold is the continuation of an ongoing study into the way materials can deceive. Present as a collection of jewellery and vases, each pieces exhibits its own expressive potential through the folds and creases that make up its form. Materials deceive, with the hard metal and porcelain forms appearing to imitate the visual properties of another more supple materials such as foam.
About Ekaterina Bazhenova Yamasaki
Born in Moscow, Russia. Lives and works in Los Angeles, USA.
Mixing still and moving image, sculpture and sound, Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki creates psychologically charged scenarios dealing with human desires. She raises subsequent dialogues with the self and reinterpretations of the female body by developing a distinctive style of film-making, using human interaction with an object to empathise and dramatise the most basic natural instincts, from submission to lust. Bazhenova-Yamasaki creates transgressive narratives, rich in symbolic meaning; and emotionally profound video work where she increasingly blurs the cinematic and the performative. Bazhenova-Yamasaki produces art symbiotically to create her own singular and beguiling world, the ideas and images she conjures also propose a synesthetic interrelationship between the realms of the visible, the audible and the imaginary.
Ekaterina has a Bachelor of Economics from Boras, Sweden and a Master of Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design. She has exhibited in London, Moscow & Berlin.
